Stop Burning Cash on These Email Mistakes
5 Email Marketing Mistakes That Are Costing You Sales
After working with a ton of ecommerce brands, I’ve seen the same issues pop up again and again.
Fix these, and you’ll see some quick wins. Let’s go:
Mistake #1: Leaving Smart Sending ON
This sneaky Klaviyo feature is costing you sales.
Here’s how it works:
If someone got an email from you in the past 16 hours, Klaviyo skips them on your flow emails.
So, if they abandoned a cart after opening your campaign, they’ll NEVER see that cart recovery email. Ouch.
Fix it:
Go to your Flow email
Click Settings
Turn OFF Smart Sending
Boom, now everyone gets the emails they’re supposed to.
Mistake #2: You Don’t Actually Have an Abandoned Cart Flow
Think you have one? Double-check.
Most brands I work with only have a Checkout Abandonment Flow—not a true Added to Cart Flow.
Here’s the deal:
Klaviyo doesn’t add an abandoned cart trigger automatically. You’ve got to install it manually via Shopify.
Fix it:
Clone your Checkout Abandon Flow.
Switch the trigger to “Abandoned Cart.”
Start earning more from those cart abandoners.
Pro Tip: Check if you already have this set up by going to Metrics → Abandoned Cart.
Mistake #3: Sending Emails to EVERYONE
Sending campaigns to your whole list = straight to spam.
Why?
Fake emails
Dead subscribers
Inboxes that never even open your stuff
Your open rates drop, your deliverability tanks, and suddenly, no one sees your emails anymore.
Fix it:
Only send to an engaged list—people who’ve opened or clicked in the last 60-90 days. This keeps your sender reputation strong and your emails visible.
Mistake #4: Ignoring Your Pop-Up Form
Your pop-up is where the email list magic happens.
Most brands get around 3-4% of site visitors to sign up. My clients? We aim for 10%.
More sign-ups = more people to sell to = more revenue. Simple math.
Fix it:
Take a look at your pop-up’s design, offer, and timing. Want a guide? I’ve got you—just reply and I’ll send it your way.

Mistake #5: Only Sending “Salesy” Emails
If all your emails are sales, sales, sales… people will stop caring.
Mix it up! Build a list that actually enjoys hearing from you.
Here are a few non-sales email ideas:
Fun facts about your product or industry
Myth-busting common misconceptions
Behind-the-scenes looks at your brand
Funny customer reviews
More fun = more opens. More opens = more sales later.
