Mistake #1: Smart Sending Turned On

Smart sending skips flow emails if someone received another email within 16 hours.

While the idea is good, it hurts conversion opportunities—like skipping a cart abandon email for someone who clicked a campaign earlier.

To fix:

  • Go to a Flow email → Settings → Turn Smart Sending OFF.

Mistake #2: No Real Cart Abandon Flow

Many brands confuse the Checkout Abandon Flow (default in Klaviyo) with a Cart Abandon Flow.

The difference? Cart Abandon captures users who added an item to their cart but didn’t proceed to checkout.

If you’re missing this trigger, you’re losing revenue.

  • Check for the Abandoned Cart metric under Metrics in Klaviyo.

Mistake #3: Sending To Your Whole List

Blasting your entire email list = spam folder disaster.

Inactive profiles and dead emails drag your open rates below 35%, hurting your sender reputation.

Instead:

  • Create an Engaged List (contacts active in the last 60–90 days).
